Collective Worship
“Collective worship truly is at the heart of school life. Pupils value the time to come together, as do adults.” (SIAMS, June 2023)
The children and staff at Leigh CE Primary value collective worship as a special time to come together to pray, give thanks and reflect. There are opportunities to learn more about the love of God through Bible stories, music, moments of reflection and prayer. We have a deep respect for all faiths represented in our school and our children delight in leading special worship sessions where they learn about a range of festivals. Our inclusive and invitational approach ensures that collective worship reflects our Christian vision and values, fostering a sense of unity among pupils and adults alike.
“Joyful collective worship opportunities, with the vision at the heart, inspire pupils to consider their place in God’s world. Pupils on the ethos team lead and develop worship.” (SIAMS, June 2023)
Children take part in a daily act of worship either as a class or whole school. The worshipping calendar focusses on the scripture that underpins our theologically rooted Christian vision, celebrations during the liturgical year and the incorporation of other global, national and local days of significance. We take care to ensure that collective worship is invitational so that pupils from a range of faiths and none participate with integrity.

The weekly pattern follows: Look Up (What is God saying through this scripture?); Look In (What can I learn and change about my life through this Bible story?) and Look Out (What is my place in the world and how do I respond?) As a school we use ‘Picture News’ weekly to reflect on local, national and global issues including the Bible perspective on the issue as well as linking to the relevant British Values. |
“Leaders plan worship carefully so that pupils’ are very knowledgeable about Bible stories, courageous advocacy and the importance of reflection time. Varied experiences fully engage pupils and call them to explore their potential as children of God.” (SIAMS, June 2023) |
