Leigh CE Primary School

RE

RE is an integral part of our curriculum, aiming to inspire and encourage open discussion and reflection. We are dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive environment where pupils not only gain knowledge but also develop a deep understanding of diverse perspectives, fostering curiosity, tolerance and respect.

Planning is taken from the RE Today scheme of work and a variety of teaching and learning methods are used, including story telling, drama and role play, music, art, visits and local walks, discussion and circle time, exploring religious texts, presentations and videos, reflection, investigating and interpreting. Links are made, where appropriate with local and national events, anniversaries or celebrations.

“The religious education (RE) curriculum provides richness and depth in theological and philosophical content which pupils are eager to explore and reflect upon. They know that they at liberty to think their own thoughts.” (SIAMS, June 2023)

“ RE is excellent because of highly effective subject leadership and the ambitious, well- planned curriculum, which includes deep, thought-provoking questions. Teachers create a safe space where pupils critically reflect on their own and others’ views. Pupils are justly proud of their extensive knowledge and understanding of religions, including Christianity and its impact on people worldwide.”  (SIAMS, June 2023)
